UCLA Research and Innovation Blueprint

Overview
This initiative aims to create a more integrated and collaborative innovation ecosystem across Southern California and beyond. Our work will strengthen UCLA’s ability to turn ideas into impact while diversifying streams of revenue.
This initiative aligns with the third goal of our strategic plan: Enhance our research and creative activities.
Goals
UCLA Research Park
- Scale up the property, beginning with anchor tenants focused on quantum computing and immunology
Industry engagement
- Strengthen engagement with industry to promote intellectual property development, support technology transfer and expand industry-sponsored research
Expected Outcomes
- A dynamic place where UCLA faculty, staff, students and postdoctoral scholars conduct problem-driven, multidisciplinary and collaborative research with external industrial, institutional, academic and government researchers.
- A vibrant interface between innovators and the public, amplifying the translation of innovation to the marketplace.
- A transformative model intellectually and economically for UCLA, the Los Angeles community and California.
- Invigorated external relations with the neighborhood; the greater Los Angeles area; local, state and national governments; industry and the broad academic community.
- A strengthened and expanded constituency supporting UCLA locally, statewide, nationally and internationally.
Implementation
Planning Leads
- To be announced.
Meets Goal 3: Enhance our research and creative activities
UCLA aspires to be the leading public university for cutting-edge research and creative activities. While our university is home to extremely talented researchers, scholars, experts, artists and creators, changes to our research infrastructure are needed to make it easier for those individuals to secure and maintain funding for their work, manage their projects, and translate their discoveries into practical applications. A focus on engaged scholarship and new connections to Los Angeles will also enable us to deepen the impact of UCLA research and creative activities.
