UCLA in the Community

Due to the severity and impact of the fires on L.A. residents both within and beyond the fire zones, the Social Impact Collaboratives call for proposals is revised to prioritize proposals that address issues related to post-fire recovery and rebuilding of lives and communities, including but not limited to fire- and climate-specific topics, housing, economic recovery, health and well-being, attention to vulnerable populations, etc.

UCLA joins elected officials, community leaders and students gathered to celebrate the success of the ongoing partnership between the university and Downtown Magnets High School, one of approximately 80 schools in the L.A. area served by UCLA’s Early Academic Outreach Program and other UCLA college-readiness programs. This is the first of several events meant to highlight the ways in which UCLA enhances the lives of Angelenos from across the city’s diverse and dynamic communities.

UCLA’s Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost surveys Senate Faculty to solicit input on creating a UCLA Institute for the Future of Los Angeles, which also gathers data on current L.A-focused teaching and research.

Stimulus funding is awarded to support new community-engaged teaching and research: 10 grants to faculty to develop new undergraduate, graduate and professional school courses; 5 awards to academic departments to build their capacity to support community-engaged teaching and their community partners; and 23 grants to interdisciplinary teams of faculty to develop new social impact research partnerships.
